Abstract
A grievance is a formal complaint by an employee regarding any event, action, or practice which he or she believes violates the collective agreement and it may arise from the dismissal or promotion of an employee, from the reassignment of an employee from one job to another, from the addition of duties, from the assignment of overtime to or the laying off of particular employees, from practices to health and safety, and so on (Stone and Meltz, 1983). ‘Grievance’ implies dissatisfaction, or distress, or suffering or grief caused unnecessarily or illegally (Ahuja, 1988).
